Abrahams seals win for Newport
Tristan Abrahams’ seventh goal from the season earned Newport a 1-0 victory at Stevenage in what was obviously a game of few chances on the Lamex Stadium.
While not at their best, the Exiles stay level on points with commanders Cambridge at the top of League Two because of a disciplined defensive performance that will meant their lead was hardly ever threatened.
Stevenage nearly got off to a sensational begin when Danny Newton’s superb lob from a narrow angle came back from the bar in just the second minute.
Having survived this frighten, Newport went ahead after 8 minutes through a confident penalty through Abrahams, after Liam Shephard choose to go down under Ben Coker’s challenge.
Abrahams was played within again by a long pass by Thomas Haynes not long after, but Boro goalkeeper Jamie Cumming this time obtained behind it.
Newton had another good chance early within the second half when he had been put through by strike partner Aramide Oteh, but Nick Townsend held out his shot across objective and the hosts couldn’t force a good equaliser.
