Bungling burglar leaves his name and tackle at crime scene

A bungling burglar who left out a rucksack containing his name plus address at the scene of a criminal offense has been jailed for four many years.

Malcolm Pyke, 43, broke into a garage in Eastern Herrington, Sunderland, and stole £150 of cleaning equipment on 6 Mar.

As he was producing his getaway, he accidentally left out a bag which contained characters bearing both his name and tackle.

This information helped prospect police officers to his home, in which the stolen equipment had been left out on view.

Detective Sergeant Chris Raper-Smith said: “Malcolm Pyke is a prolific thief who has regularly proven a disregard for the regulation and the welfare of others.

“Unfortunately designed for him, his latest offence that was fairly unsophisticated saw him depart behind a number of personal items which focused officers straight to his front door”.

The stolen devices has been returned to its rightful owner.

In addition to asking guilty to the burglary, Pyke furthermore admitted another burglary, as well as 2 thefts of property in relation to exactly what police have called a “crime spree” during which he stole clothing from a family’s washing line.
