Wycombe’s maiden term in the 2nd tier had opened miserably along with five successive defeats.

They did at least score their own first league goal of the period – through Scott Kashket — in the 2-1 home loss in order to Millwall on Saturday.

Neither side threatened in the earlier exchanges with both teams content to shift the ball slowly as they appeared for space.

Full-back Jack Grimmer steered clear of along the right flank and entered cleverly into the home box.

Unmarked Alex Samuel fulfilled the ball first time on the volley but his tame effort had been comfortably gathered by Reading goalkeeper Rafael.

Samuel’s team-mates Matt Bloomfield and Dennis Adeniran should also have done better but did not trouble Rafael from long variety.

Reading were bad going forward, laboured in their approach perform and unable to break down the inflexible away defence.

Ovie Ejaria fell in the Wycombe region after a good run from the remaining wing but referee Andy Revealed deemed the challenge from Grimmer to become fair.
