EFL Trophy: Man Utd and Chelsea U21s win on pens

Manchester United U21s sealed a problem shootout victory over Rochdale within their EFL Trophy clash on Wednesday night.

After a goalless draw, United’s youngsters went on in order to win 5-4 on spot-kicks, along with Harrison Hopper missing the crucial charges in sudden death.

Chelsea U21s also won upon penalties after a 1-1 draw in Walsall. Wes McDonald gave Walsall the lead early in the 2nd half, before Dynel Simeu levelled for the Blues, who went on in order to win 5-3 in the shootout.

Elsewhere, there was a beat for Liverpool U21s at Tranmere, with Rovers winning 3-2, plus a 1-0 victory for Crewe more than Newcastle U21s.

Western Ham U21s snatched a 1-0 win at Colchester, while Stansted City U21s thumped Scunthorpe 4-0 away.

Meanwhile, Wayne Wilson struck as Salford defeat Morecambe 2-0.
