David Menuisier has following year’s Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in mind for Fantastic Tonight, after she gave your pet a first Group One in his native nation in the Qatar Prix de Royallieu at ParisLongchamp.
Menuisier, the Sussex-based but French-born coach, and owner Christopher Wright got thought about supplementing the lightly-raced filly for Sunday’s showpiece this year — only to stick to their original strategy, and see it come to fruition.
With just seven profession starts to her name, the three-year-old daughter of Le Havre is placed to stay in training in 2021 – in fact it is possible too she may operate again this term in the Uk Champions Fillies’ And Mares Buy-ins at Ascot, after having the girl odds halved from 16-1 in order to 8-1 with Betfair and Paddy Power.
Wonderful This evening was sent off the 7-2 favorite for the Royallieu, having won a Group 3 race in Deauville and completed a creditable fifth in the Tarifs Vermeille last month.
Jockey Tony Piccone had the girl well-positioned just off the pace established by Frankie Dettori on Skip Yoda for John Gosden — with the Ralph Beckett-trained Manuela Sobre Vega on his heels and Pista, trained by Joseph O’Brien, not really far away.
Piccone produced his move early in the home directly, and Wonderful Tonight kicked upon over two furlongs out. The girl drifted towards the stands side : while her nearest pursuer, Pista, spoilt her chance by heading the other way towards the far train.
Wonderful Tonight preserved the gallop throughout the entire mile-and-three-quarter trip to score by a length plus a quarter from Pista.
The first two drew five measures clear of Ebaiyra in third location.
Menuisier said: “I am so proud of the filly. She is very tough, and I think it had been a well-deserved win, because the girl didn’t do it the easy way : she won the hard way.
“She was still a little keen throughout, and I think it’s greenness. She’s not a filly that brings or whatever. She’s still not really the finished article. There is, for me, bags of improvement to come in the manner she does things.
“I’m over the moon. ”
Menuisier is in no hurry just yet to commit her in order to Ascot, though.
“She’s entered, and I can’t say in any event, ” he added.
“We will see how she happens of the race obviously. It’s within two weeks’ time – plus (we’ll) see if the track remains waterlogged!
“We have to play it by ear. The girl might be kicking and bucking within five days, because she is a little like that. If she does we would think about it. ”
“She will stay in training, all becoming well, and the main target would be the Arc next year.
“We had a discussion about supplementing the girl this year. It was tongue in quarter, or maybe it wasn’t. If I had heard Love wasn’t running maybe I might have pushed even harder in order to supplement her.
“She was really well – and receiving bodyweight from the older horses, she would possess gone quite far. I’m not really saying she would have won, yet I think she would not have been far. Anyway, it’s water under the link. ”
Menuisier remembered how he came to acquire the filly for 40, 000 euros with Arqana August Yearling Sales within France.
“She has been unsold in the ring, ” this individual said.
“I understood the breeders, and they asked myself to look at her. I loved the way in which she walked – she has been light on her feet, like an index. She was such a good mover.
“On the same time, Chris Wright sold the top great deal to Godolphin – I visited congratulate him, and the discussion continued to something else.
“I told him about this filly : saying she didn’t look a lot, because she was a backward filly, but once she’s come together the girl could be a good purchase.
“They only wanted 40, 1000 euros and he said ‘OK — if you like her, have her vetted, and buy her’. And that’s what we do. ”
