Henry Ford Wellness System will increase its minimum wage to $15 per hour for more than 3, 500 employees, beginning Sunday, CEO Wright Lassiter III announced Friday.
Despite losing millions of dollars this season because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Lassiter stated the pay raise helps to meet Henry Ford’s mission of enhancing lives and healing. The increase, which was considered back in 2019 yet delayed when the pandemic hit within March, will tack on an additional $6 million in additional expenses.
“We have a crucial role to play in removing obstacles to opportunity and achieving collateral for all — and our team associates are a crucial part of the communities all of us serve, ” Lassiter said within a statement.

The raise impacts full-time, part-time and contingent workers not currently earning at least $15 per hour. It covers workers within environmental services associates, nurse co-workers, food services assistants, health screeners and clinic services representatives, which includes 400 union members.
Some Henry Ford employees receive as little as $11 per hour, Lassiter mentioned.

Henry Kia also plans a general wage boost later this year and other pay modifications depending on job classification.
