Lewis Ritson intends to “prove” his worthiness on the world phase with a career-best win over Miguel Vazquez at the weekend.
Ritson fights for the vacant WBA global super-lightweight title against former globe champion Vazquez on Saturday evening, live on Sky Sports from six. 30pm.
“If We bring my A-game, I’ll be a lot of for Miguel and will stop your pet, ” Ritson said.
“I believe he’s probably a little bit on the glide whereas I’m still on the way upward, so we’re meeting bang in the centre.
“This is the precise type of fight where I can obtain more experience to move to the next stage.
“He’s been generally there and done it. We know exactly what he is all about and what he will provide. ”
Former Uk champion Ritson lost his undefeated record two years ago in his house city of Newcastle in an unsuccessful Western title challenge against Francesco Patera.
But he has given that rebounded by impressively outpointing Robbie Davies Jr.
“Beating Robbie proved I’m at that will European level, now it’s time to demonstrate I can go to the interim world degree stage with a good win against Vazquez.
“That will pave the way for more big fights.
“We never get anyone lightly and we definitely have not taken Vazquez lightly.
“If I bring my A-game, I’ll have more than enough in order to beat him. ”
Saturday’s fight with Vazquez has been delayed twice in 2020 already yet Ritson feels like that will play straight into his hands.
“It has probably benefitted me greater than most other fighters, ” he stated.
“It has actually allowed for us to gel plus work on other areas of our game. Instead of wondering when a fight date might drop, despite the cancellations we have constantly had an end date in mind that has allowed for me to stay disciplined plus sharp throughout.
“I’ve been in the gym the full year coaching hard and staying ready for what ever happens next.
“The start of lockdown gave me an opportunity to slow the pace down a bit and work on a lot more of the specialized stuff.
“I feel as if I’ve improved a couple of levels when compared with how I boxed against Robbie Revealed Jr. ”
